Inspiration: Danielle’s masquerade dress from Ever After

December 2007

Recreation based on the masked ball scene in Ever After. Made from silk charmeause backed in cotton voile, silk metallic organza de-coloured and found items of lace and bullion trim.
Made for the Special Children’s Christmas Party in Auckland 2007.

There was no silver tissue organza available, so I used a dye remover on a very purple piece. It took a lot of care but the end result was very much to antique the metal and silk threads.

I made the bodice from two layers of cotton duck and used darts that would be hidden by the layers of trim. Traditionally placed darts and curved seams show up under the tissue.

I hand applied the silver tissue to the bodice then used a wide zig zag to keep it stabilised.

I used the same kind of silk charmeuse as in the film for the underskirt and backed it with cotton voille. I tinted some vintage trim to tone in with the silver and I also recycled trimmings from garments.

The bodice panel was made from vintage lace I also removed dye from.
